BM Shots – Automated Screenshots for Your Website

BM Shots is a plugin that makes use of WordPress api for automatically creating screenshots of your website.

This plugin was developed for use on WPVote.com. The development process and code has been written up here.

Usage

There are 2 ways to make use of BM Shots. 1, the shortcode, and 2, a direct function call. If you install the plugin then the most common usage method is likely to be the shortcode.

Shortcodes

Just stick this in your post and the shortcode will be output as an image of the website you requested.

PHP Function

Using the PHP function is just as easy. The method looks like this:

bm_mshot ($url, $width = 250);

And usage is nice and simple.

Notes

One thing to remember is that the image creation takes some time so will not display instantly. I have also noticed that some websites take longer than others, but they do show up eventually.

WP Super Cache

This plugin generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog. After a html file is generated your webserver will serve that file instead of processing the comparatively heavier and more expensive WordPress PHP scripts.

The static html files will be served to the vast majority of your users, but because a user’s details are displayed in the comment form after they leave a comment those requests are handled by PHP. Static files are served to:

1. Users who are not logged in.
2. Users who have not left a comment on your blog.
3. Or users who have not viewed a password protected post.

99% of your visitors will be served static html files. Those users who don’t see the static files will still benefit because they will see regular WP-Cache cached files and your server won’t be as busy as before. This plugin will help your server cope with a front page appearance on digg.com or other social networking site.

If for some reason “supercaching” doesn’t work on your server then don’t worry. Caching will still be performed, but every request will require loading the PHP engine. In normal circumstances this isn’t bad at all. Visitors to your site will notice no slowdown or difference. Supercache really comes into it’s own if your server is underpowered, or you’re experiencing heavy traffic. Super Cached html files will be served more quickly than PHP generated cached files but in every day use, the difference isn’t noticeable.

WP-DBManager

Allows you to optimize database, repair database, backup database, restore database, delete backup database , drop/empty tables and run selected queries. Supports automatic scheduling of backing up and optimizing of database.

Permalinks Moved Permanently

If you just migrated your WordPress blog from one permalink structure to another, and you don’t want to lose Pagerank or traffic that accesses your blog through the old permalinks, this is for you.

Right before the old permalink generates a 404, this simple plugin grabs the slug from the end of the request and checks if there’s a post with this slug living somewhere else on your blog. If so, it will generate a “301 Moved Permanently” error, which automatically forwards your visitor (and Googlebot) to the new location of your post. It’s simple, but effective. No configuration options, just plug and play.

Fotobook is a WordPress plugin that will link to your Facebook account(s) and import all of your photo albums for use in your WordPress installation. It uses the Facebook’s API so importing your photos is a breeze.

Before I start writing the plugin I study all photo and picture plugins for WordPress, I figure out that some of them are really good and well designed, but I missed a simple and easy administration back end to handle multiple photos, galleries and albums.

One post, one image, one description. Your image should be worth that. If you need to display multiple images in one post – Just download and use one of the several available gallery plugins for WordPress.

4. Inline Gallery

The author has no time and plans of supporting this plugin. You are on your own. You have been warned! This plugin offers a way of including arbitrary amounts of images in posts; the basic ideas came from AutoGallery. Here is a little demo of what it can do.

Features:

• plug and play, just like any other WordPress plug-in
• easy to configure
• does no processing on the images (except for getting the image metadata), so it’s lightning fast
• you can have multiple galleries per post
• integrated with WordPress 2.0′s wysiwyg editor (the way QuickTags is implemented doesn’t allow easy placing of buttons in the toolbar, but that’s not a big problem, since you are editing code, anyway)
• (since 0.2) output is customizable with templates
• (since 0.3.0) supports XMP, IPTC and EXIF captions; The order of preference is:
  • XMP Dublin Core title and description
  • XMP Photoshop Headline text
  • IPTC caption
  • EXIF comment

  This means you can also set captions for your files using Photoshop or Picasa, if you don’t particularly enjoy editing ini files.

• (since 0.3.0) Picasa.ini support (Picasa writes captions there for files that do not support IPTC)
• (since 0.3.1) Admin page AJAX-ish gallery browser and caption editor using mootools (needs write access to your image files)
